Which Oura Ring measures remain after the membership stops

dayanother.com Editorial Team ·

Your Oura Ring keeps sitting on your finger after Oura Membership ends. On Gen3 and newer, the app still shows three daily scores—Readiness, Activity, and Sleep—plus battery, basic profile details, settings, and Explore. The detailed sleep breakdown, SpO2, daytime stress, reports, and the other membership features leave the screen once the paid period ends. Cancelling is not the same as deleting the account; Oura says the stored data stays with the account unless you delete that account.

What still measures, and what the app hides

  • Still works: Without an active membership, the Oura App still shows your three daily scores (Readiness, Activity, and Sleep), ring battery, basic profile information, app settings, and Explore content. If you cancel and do not delete the account, Oura says your data and account information remain saved under its privacy policy. You can still download your personal data from Membership Hub in CSV format.
  • Stops working: Active membership is what unlocks detailed sleep analysis, 24/7 heart rate tracking, SpO2, advanced temperature monitoring, daytime stress, dynamic activity goals with automatic activity detection, Heart Health and Metabolic Health features, Oura Labs, Resilience, periodic reports, Women’s Health insights, third-party app integrations such as Strava, and the Oura API. After cancel, you keep full access only through the end of the billing period you already paid.
  • Needs subscription: Those membership features listed above. Oura Membership applies to Gen3 and newer. Gen2 does not require Oura Membership and is not charged membership fees under the current membership page.
  • Needs previous owner removed: The ring is meant to connect to one account at a time. Before a used ring goes to someone else, Oura’s setup page says to factory-reset it first. Membership does not transfer between accounts; the new wearer needs their own account. A factory reset clears data on the ring itself; data already synced to the account is a separate matter.
  • Can work offline: Bluetooth must be on for the ring to sync with the app. The ring still collects data when Bluetooth is off, in Airplane Mode, or disconnected; that data syncs the next time Bluetooth is enabled. How long the ring can hold unsynced data depends on the model: Oura Ring 5 up to three days; Oura Ring 4 and Gen3 up to one week.

What lives on the ring, and what lives on the account

Oura’s data page draws a clean line. The ring detects physiological metrics such as heart rate, average body temperature, and movement. It syncs that information to the Oura App over Bluetooth. The app data is tied to the Oura account you created when you set the ring up. The company also describes the app syncing with Oura on the Web so insights survive a lost ring or an upgrade. That is account storage, not a night that only exists inside the metal band.

A stored night and a membership score are not the same thing. The ring can keep collecting while Bluetooth is off, and it can hold a limited run of days on the device before a sync. When the data reaches the account, Oura says it stays there after you cancel—as long as you have not deleted the account. What the unpaid app is allowed to show is narrower: three daily scores and the small set of basics above. Detailed sleep analysis and the other membership tools are listed as membership features, not as free leftovers on the finger.

Factory reset is another place where device and account split. Resetting the ring erases what is stored on the ring. Oura says data already synced to the account or Oura on the Web is not wiped by that reset. Deleting the account is the step that permanently removes the account and its data, and it also cancels membership automatically.

What changes when the membership stops

On Oura’s current membership page, cancel stops future charges and leaves full app access through the end of the billing period you already paid. After that period, the limited view applies: three daily scores, battery, basic profile, settings, and Explore. Membership features such as detailed sleep analysis, SpO2, daytime stress, reports, Women’s Health tools, and third-party integrations are not in that limited list. The Oura API also needs an active membership; personal CSV download through Membership Hub does not.

Oura’s terms say the same timing in subscription language: cancel future charges; keep access until the end of the current subscription term; no prorated refund for the remaining term.

Compare that with the already published piece on what a Peloton can still do after the membership ends. Peloton classes are service content that stop when the subscription ends; the bike hardware is separate. The same split fits Oura’s pages: features that need Oura’s membership layer stop when that service ends, and a CSV you already exported from Membership Hub can remain on your computer. The ring on your finger is not the same object as the detailed sleep chart that membership unlocks.

What to open on Oura’s site before you decide

Open the current membership article at https://support.ouraring.com/hc/en-us/articles/4409086524819-Oura-Membership. This page was opened on September 29, 2026. Read the section on using the ring without membership, the list of what active membership includes, the cancel rules, and the note that data remains if you cancel without deleting the account.

Then open Membership Hub from the app path that page describes (menu → Settings → Account → Manage membership), or go to the Hub directly, and check plan status, next payment date, and whether cancel already shows. Confirm whether you are on Gen3 or newer—membership applies there—or Gen2, which the same page says does not take membership fees.

What to do before you cancel

Export first if you want a file you control. Oura’s export page, opened on September 29, 2026, says Membership Hub export is available to all Oura users, with or without active membership. Log in to Membership Hub, choose Export data, then Request your data. Oura says the file may take up to 10 days. When it is ready, Oura emails the address on the account; you download it from the Hub. The membership FAQ states that export without membership is CSV.

Shareable Reports and the Oura on the Web download path are different tools. Shareable Reports are described for Gen2 and for Gen3-or-later with active membership. The Web download path is described for Gen3 or later with active membership, and Oura says Oura on the Web will be discontinued on October 5, 2026. Do not treat those as substitutes for the Membership Hub CSV if you are about to drop membership.

Cancel from Membership Hub when you are ready. Keep the account if you want the saved history to remain under Oura’s policy. Do not factory-reset the ring as part of cancel unless you mean to clear the device for storage or for another person.

One fact that belongs to this product

Oura Membership is tied to the Oura account, not to the physical ring. If you pair a new or replacement ring to the same account, the membership moves with that account. Membership also does not transfer to a different person’s account when a used ring changes hands.

The mistake that makes this worse

Deleting the Oura account when you only meant to stop paying. Oura’s privacy page says cancel leaves data in place and lets you renew later; delete permanently removes the account and data and cancels membership at the same time. Once that delete finishes, the history you expected to reopen with a new plan is gone.
